Legacies and Memorial Gifts

Over the years, many members of the Women’s Missionary Society have given a gift to the Women’s Missionary Society in the form of a legacy.  Relatives have also chosen to remember a loved one by giving a memorial gift.  A memorial gift is a fitting way to remember someone who had supported the Society during their life.

Legacies and memorial gifts are a special way of reaching out in Christ’s name.  This leaflet answers some common questions about the giving and uses of legacies and memorial gifts.

A contribution to the Legacy funds of the Women’s Missionary Society will aid in the outreach of the church for years to come.  All legacies and memorial gifts should be forwarded to the Women’s Missionary Society (Western Division) rather than a branch of the Society.

General Legacy Fund

How will the money I leave to the General Legacy Fund be used?

Legacies and memorial gifts in the form of a bequest made out to the Women’s Missionary    Society (Western Division) are used for the general work of the Society or invested for future use.

Wills and Bequests

I am thinking of drawing up my will.  I would like to leave a legacy to the Women’s Missionary Society (WD).

How do I ensure my wishes are understood?

Ask your Lawyer to include the following Form of Bequest in your will.

Form of Bequest

I give and bequeath to the Women’s Missionary Society (Western Division) of the  Presbyterian Church in Canada the sum of ___________ dollars.

I  declare that the receipt of the Treasurer for the time being of the said organization shall be sufficient discharge to my executors for payment thereof.

Please note that it is the policy of the Society that members be requested to make legacies or memorial gifts to the Women’s Missionary Society (WD) and not to a branch of the    Society.
