Introducing Joan Smith, Council President
At Council 2010, Joan Smith was installed as the next President. Leading up to this, Joan was Vice-President of Council for a couple of years and President of the Synodical of Central and Northern Ontario and Bermuda (CNOB) for three years.
Joan is a retired school teacher who taught mainly in senior public school (grades 7 and 8). She taught a variety of subjects over the 31 years such as communications, mathematics, history and girls' physical education.
Joan is very involved in her church, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, in Port Hope, Ontario. She is curretnyl the clerk of session and convener of the Christian Education committee. Over the years she taught many classes as the Sunday School coordinator. Above all, she has been a member of the Annie Purves WMS group in her church for 46 years, holding various executive positions through those years.
Joan was married to Charles for over 49 years. In January, 2010, Charles passed away in Port Hope, Ontario where both he and Joan were born, raised, and married. He was a great support to her in whatever she did. They have three children -David, Steven, Cindy. They also have 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Outside of her church and WMS life, Joan enjoys being with family, reading, gardening and doing volunteer work.

The first TOGETHER WE CAN! Projects were such a huge success that the WMS Council decided to do another set of 2 projects for 2010-2012.
They are:
1) Health Clinics in Gaza
2) Refugee program in Canada.
Information about these two projects will be available in September 2010 along with other promotional items. These will be mailed to all congregations and WMS groups by the end of September.
